Leon Mao

Physiotherapist and Clinical Pilates Instructor
B.Sc (Hons) D.Physio

Leon graduated with his Doctorate of Physiotherapy degree from the University of Melbourne. Since then, he has worked in multiple settings, including elite amateur football clubs, medical clinics, private practice, and commercial gyms. Leon also holds qualifications in DMA Clinical Pilates and dry needling, which he routinely incorporates in his treatments.

Before physiotherapy, Leon was a tennis coach who worked with primary school children to adults. His passion for exercise and movement sparked his desire for helping others improve their physical health and overcome pain. Although he enjoys treating multiple areas of the body, he is specifically interested in assisting clients with their lower back pain, tennis elbow and shoulder pain conditions.

Currently, Leon is working as a consulting physiotherapist and clinical pilates instructor at Hawthorn Physiotherapy Clinic. He also performs rounds as a physiotherapist at St. Vincent’s Private Hospital whilst collaborating with several orthopaedic surgeons.
Leon’s main hobbies are playing tennis, strength training, watching MMA, and nutrition outside of physiotherapy. Overall, he enjoys helping those in pain regain their livelihood and return to normality.

Leon is a member of the Australian Physiotherapy Association.
